Indian Magazine Congress Day 1 focused on digital and social media opportunities

Indian Magazine Congress, an annual event of AIM, started on 6th Sept'10 in Mumbai, where most from the industry gather together to discuss the goings -on of the industry in a two days conference.

The conference began with inaugural key notes by prominent speakers like Raghu Menon, Secretary, Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Govt. of India, Aroon Purie, Chairman, FPP, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, India Today Group, Nicholas Brett, Editor-in-Chief and Dy Managing Director, BBC Worldwide Media, Ashish Perwani, Associate Director, Media & Entertainment, Earnst & Young.

Menon deliberated on issues like amendment of the PRB act and the necessity of further liberalization and so on. Purie began his talk by stating that print media has a very bright future and should be more optimistic in nature. He also went on to address the issues of having low cover prices and insisted that the consumer must pay his fair price and spoke about alternative revenues and liberalization at length.

Today four panel discussions took place with topics ranging from editorial challenges in a world of convergence to social media to future of international magazine brands in India to custom publishing. They were interesting interactive sessions, where major concerns like convergence and issue of i-pads entering the market will threaten the print media or not and how to get content for these mediums as well as the print were discussed at length.

Speakers like Raul Suarez, Managing Director, Zinio International and Mahesh Murthy, Founder, Pinstorm and Managing Partner, Seedfund, also gave valuable insight within their domain.
