Indians take YouTube Shorts by storm with BTS ‘Permission to Dance Challenge’

The BTS #PermissionToDance challenge has taken the world by storm and the BTS ARMY in India can't get enough of it.

Just as the lyrics of the popular track encourage listeners to move to the rhythm of their heartbeat, BTS invited people to add their own style to the Permission to Dance Challenge on YouTube Shorts. The dance moves for this challenge are the “International Sign” gestures for “Joy,” “Dance” and “Peace” that the septet was seen doing in the music video. And, the BTS ARMY in India did not miss a beat!

Here are some unique takes from the Permission to Dance Challenge that have a uniquely Indian spin while showing love for the popular K-pop band:

  • Kookie Puth, part of the BTS fandom in India, performed the Permission to Dance Challenge in the Odissi folk dance style, complete with traditional Sambalpuri attire.
  • Football wizard Pradeep shows off some fancy footwork, this time with his latest trick set to the Permission to Dance Challenge.
  • What do you get when you give comedians #PermissionToDance? Some truly fun, funny and feel good dance moves! Take a look at Supaarwoman who dances her way to our hearts and Anmol Sachar whose quirky rendition will leave you in splits.
  • Breaking stereotypes, the first dance video shared by Little Glove after her pregnancy was on the #PermissiontoDance challenge. Tanvi, along with Little Glove, was featured on the BANGTANTV playlist.
  • Cousins Annie and Ashna of Chattambees bring their characteristic impish charm to the cover
  • And, sisters Milna, Mariya and Celine of Milnaz Vlog, dance to two colour-coordinated renditions

BTS will be spotlighting some of their favorite Shorts from the challenge, which concludes on 14 August, in a compilation video. Anyone can easily recreate the three “Permission to Dance” moves with their own style by following these simple steps on the YouTube mobile app:

  • Tap the “( + ) Create Icon” on the bottom navigation bar and select "Create a Short”.
  • Tap the “Add Music'' button and select BTS’ “Permission to Dance.” The music will be queued up perfectly to 15 seconds without having to do anything else.
  • Hold the “Capture” button (red circle) to record your Short video clip.
  • Tap “Done” followed by “Next” to add video details. Be sure to include hashtags #PermissiontoDance and #Shorts
  • Hit “Upload” and you are good to go!
