INS writes to RNI seeking extension of date for filing of Annual Statement for 2020-21

The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) has written to the Registrar of Newspaper for India (RNI), seeking extension of date for filing of Annual Statement for 2020-21.

In its letter dated April 23, 2021, the Society has requested Satyendra Prakash, The Press Registrar, RNI, to extend the date till December 2021. Earlier, RNI had asked the publishers to file the Annual Statement online for the period April 2020 to March 2021 by May 31, 2021.

In its letter, INS stated that the second wave of COVID-19 is impacting the entire country and the normal working of all businesses, including newspaper publishers, has been “severely impacted”. “The publishers are barely managing the basic works important for bringing out newspapers every single day to the readers. With a large part of the workforce operating from home and also severely impaired because of COVID infections, the publishers are finding it difficult to collate all the required data from across print locations/ editions to enable them to file the annual statement,” INS further stated.

The Society also reminded RNI that last year, too, faced with a similar situation, RNI had supported the publishers by extending the last date for submission of the Annual Statement.
