Instagram and Condé Nast Traveller India turn 10 together

Instagram and Condé Nast Traveller India are turning 10 this week, and they’re celebrating it in the most appropriate way possible: with a throwback to the journeys that have left a lasting impact on us.

Condé Nast Traveller India, India’s leading luxury travel publisher, and Instagram, the world’s most popular photo-sharing network, are working with a variety of digital content creators to inspire audiences on the platform to share their favourite travel memories around the theme: #BestTripsLastForever. These will include photographers, filmmakers, artists, chefs, travel bloggers, celebrities, etc. Look out for it on @cntravellerindia starting Tuesday, 6 October. The celebration will also include the best of Condé Nast Traveller India's archive of travel photography spanning the past 10 years--definitely not to be missed.

“We are thrilled to share our 10th anniversary with Instagram, which has been such a great platform for people to share their travels with each other,” says Condé Nast Traveller India’s Editor Divia Thani. “Even now, at a time when much of travel is on pause, our audience engagement and readership is higher than ever. They're remembering their past trips and sharing their memories with each other every day, while planning their next trip with impatience. This encouraged us to create our 10th anniversary content on the theme #BestTripsLastForever as our audience of passionate travellers truly believes that nothing is more precious and enriching than travel—the memories nourish your soul for life!”

How Instagram has changed travel

Instagram has changed the way we live, eat, shop, and of course, travel. Selfies against the world's most famous monuments, climbing to the top of a mountain or the edge of a cliff just for the perfect sunrise shot, #FollowMe to the world's most scenic spots, a seemingly never-ending stream of images of infinity pools overlooking blue seas with the blue sky in the horizon, influencers lying in perfectly messed up beds with perfect hotel breakfast trays, and of course, 2020 has been filled with #tbt our favourite trips of all time...

Who would imagine Instagram has been around only 10 years? On October 6, 2010, the app's founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger launched Instagram as a social network dedicated to photo sharing with the added advantage of being able to apply filters to its square-shaped images instantly, making them all the more shareable. Just two years later, Facebook acquired Instagram (and Kim Kardashian signed up). The scale today is mind-boggling: Just last month, more than 1 billion people posted photos on Instagram. The hashtag travel throws up more than 522 million posts, #travelphotography and #travelgram more than 131 million each.

10 years of Condé Nast Traveller India

This month, Condé Nast Traveller's Indian edition celebrates a decade too. When they launched, they had a print magazine, website and a BlackBerry app, but not an Instagram account, recalls editor Divia Thani. Today, the luxury travel brand has 375k Instagram followers, and recently launched a contest with Kandima resort in the Maldives, wherein one lucky person stands to win 365 days at the Maldives hotel along with their family. "Instagram has been a great way for us to stay engaged with our audience, which consists of passionate, discerning travellers who dearly miss being out and about."
