IRS Q3 2011: More loss and less gain for English Magazines this quarter

The Indian Readership Survey 2011 results of the third quarter indicate more loss of readership for most English magazines in the top 10 list.

India Today, India's largest read English magazine comes at the top position. Though loosing 88,000 readers this quarter, the weekly holds this position with 1636 AIR as compared to 1724 AIR in Q2 2011.

General Knowledge Today replaces Reader's Digest on the second position of the list. Compared to 977 AIR in the previous quarter, the monthly has recorded an AIR of 1087 in the current quarter, with an addition of 1,10,000 readers.

While Readers Digest has slipped down to down to the 3rd spot, the monthly magazine has maintained it AIR. It has, like the previous quarter recorded 998 AIR in the current quarter as well. On the fourth spot is Competition Success Review, which has added a minor 3000 readers to its account. It has recorded 657 AIR this quarter, while it was 654 in the previous quarter.

The 5th and 6th positions seem to be on a losing line. While Outlook has lost 12,000 this quarter, The Week has lost 9000 readers. The weeklies have recorded 444 AIR and 387 AIR respectively in this quarter of IRS 2011.

Film and entertainment magazine Stardust has added a remarkable 43,000 readers to its account. It has recorded 385 AIR this quarter as compared to 342 AIR in Q2 2011. Some similar gaining lines is business fortnightly Business Today which has added 12,000 readers this quarter. IT has recorded 345 AIR in Q3 of 2011 as compared to 333 AIR in the previous quarter.

Closing the list on the losing lines is Femina at the 9th spot and Filmfare and the 10th spot. Losing 8000 readers, Femina recorded 331 AIR as compared to 339 AIR of Q2 2011. Similarly, losing significant 39,000 readers, Filmfare recorded 327 AIR in Q3 of IRS 2011 as compared to 366 AIR of Q2 2011.
