Jumpstart 2023 with Red Bull athletes Smriti Mandhana, and more

Red Bull has curated a challenge called Red Bull January Jumpstart for fitness enthusiasts in India to give their 2023 fitness goals wiings. Red Bull January Jumpstart is a campaign by Red Bull to showcase how top athletes train to maintain maximum efficiency in their field of sport.

Red Bull India athletes such as Smriti Mandhana, Ashwini Ponnappa, Manpreet Singh & Gurpreet Singh Sandhu have talked about their fitness targets that they have set for the New Year and how they are working towards achieving them. These athletes have also shared their workout exercises that help them stay fit.

Ashwini Ponnappa quotes- “Getting lean and muscular is part of the plan for January 2023. I had to take a break from regular training during the pandemic and put on a bit of weight that I’ve found hard to lose. So that’s something I want to do. And another fitness target is also to be able to last longer on court with good rallies”

“I would say all three at this point of time. Stay injury free, increase the length of my career and performing my best on court; all three are really important for me,” says Ashwini.

“I feel like being smart with my approach with fitness is one of the key aspects of achieving my objectives. Because if I'm not smart and I break my body, that would mean the end of my career. And I would have lost out on my objectives. I can't really afford to do that. I can't really take a chance with my physical fitness, and that's something that I wouldn't compromise,” she continues.”

Smriti Mandhana quotes- “In pre-season, I will usually do a cardio session and a strength training session every day. It would usually be cardio in the morning for half-an-hour and then a strength training session in the afternoon or evening for one-and-half-hour. This is for five days a week. And then two days would be swimming and other recovery sessions,” she reveals.”
“I love strength training. I think I could do strength every day of the week, My least favourite is anything to do with running. I try to avoid it, but I know I can’t avoid it. It’s funny because I never get nervous before a match, but if I know I have to wake up tomorrow and go running, I will be nervous before the run,”

“My resolution is to be physically and mentally fresh for my sport, especially in situations where endurance is needed. For example, when I’m batting with 70-80 runs on the board, I want to be fresh. My fitness resolution every year is to just improve by 7-8%. So that’s my 2023 resolution as well – improve my fitness by 7-8%”
