Koel Mallick joins hands with P&G to make a difference to lives of the children at the P&G Shiksha school in Kolkata

Having built and supported over 330 schools till date that will impact the lives  of over 6,00,000 children, P&G’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program P&G Shiksha continues to march forward with the motto ‘Padhega India, Badhega India’. In its 11th year, P&G Shiksha continues to make the necessary infrastructure interventions by building and supporting schools across the country thereby giving children the access to education.  Extending her support towards this noble initiative, renowned actress Koel Mallick, visited the P&G Shiksha School in Kolkata. Koel Mallick, who apart from being an extremely well known actress in Kolkata, is also a trained Odissi dancer and she gracefully taught the little girls from the school the ‘Chouka’, a stance from the dance. It was indeed wonderful to see the little girls attempting the dance form with graceful moves and beautiful expressions. She also engaged in conversations with the children who asked the versatile actress questions about her school days.

Technologically advanced learning is being promoted by a lot of schools in bigger cities, however, underprivileged children rarely get a chance to access it. Promoting advance learning amongst the underprivileged children in this school is what P&G Shiksha aims to do as a part of their interventions and taking that forward, they have built a computer lab for the students in the P&G Shiksha school here in Kolkata. P&G Shiksha has not only encouraged providing basic education but has also focused on the overall development of a child and through this intervention of building the computer lab, they are giving a chance to the students to do just that. The excitement of the students of the school knew no bounds as Koel taught them how to use the computer and watched the children try their hand at it.

In Kolkata, P&G Shiksha has improved the lives of more than 6672 under-privileged children by providing them with quality education, by building and supporting 22 schools. With the objective of providing access to education to every child across the nation, P&G Shiksha is working extensively by making key infrastructure interventions. P&G Shiksha has been instrumental in the change by equipping the schools with necessary amenities from building classrooms to building toilets, providing clean drinking water to setting up playgrounds in not only Kolkata but the whole of West Bengal as well.

The actress shared her vision of how important education is for building a secure future for an individual and in turn for the entire country, and together with P&G Shiksha urged consumers to make the simple brand choice and join the program’s drive by purchasing P&G products such as Tide, Ariel, Whisper, Pampers, Olay, Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Vicks, Gillette, Oral-B & AmbiPur. These purchases enable the company to channelize part of the sales proceeds towards building and supporting schools across the country.

Koel Mallick expressed her joy by saying, “I have been supporting P&G Shiksha over the years by choosing P&G products and today I am very happy to visit the P&G Shiksha school and witness the difference it has made in the lives of the children here in Kolkata. I strongly believe that education is extremely important for every child’s growth, however focusing on overall development is also very important. By constructing a computer lab in this school, not only is P&G Shiksha focusing on overall development of the students but are also creating a pathway for the these children to avail of equal career opportunities in the future.

She further added, “Interacting with these children today has made me realize that there is so much urge and hunger in them to learn and I am sure that some great professionals will walk out of these very classrooms in the future and will make our Kolkata proud. It is a great initiative that P&G Shiksha has taken up of educating children all over the country which has resulted in a remarkable difference in their lives and we all should continue to help them do that by making a simple choice of buying P&G products, so that many more children will have a bright future ahead of them.”
