Kunaal Roy Kapur to play a cop's role in Zee Theatre's Shadyantra

Actor Kunaal Roy Kapur, who has essayed diverse roles on television and in films like 'Delhi Belly', 'Nautanki' Saala', 'Loins of Punjab' and 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' etc is excited to play a cop for the first time in Zee Theatre's teleplay 'Shadyantra.' He says, I am usually drawn to dark characters because the stronger a villain is, the more heroic the hero appears to be but, in this teleplay, I play a cop. He is not like the usual light-hearted and likeable characters that I often play, and is also an antithesis of the brash, flamboyant policemen you usually see in films."

'Shadyantra' he says, is a murder mystery with shades of psychological intrigue. The play is woven around a murder that shakes up the world of a young heiress Natasha and then Mohan Khanna, played by Kapur enters the scene to get some answers. Says Kunaal, "The joy of theatre is matchless and it is admirable that Zee Theatre is not only preserving the wealth of Indian stories but is also bringing so many fabulous plays to the audience. To retell classic and contemporary stories in a relatable format is truly innovative and hats off to them!"

About his performance, he says, "Unlike Rohan and Natasha, played by my very talented co-stars Chandan Roy Sanyal and Hina Khan, Mohan Khanna does not have long dialogues so I had to rely on my body language to communicate what he was feeling. Our director Ganesh Yadav is also a very talented actor and he enacted the key aspects of our characters to make things easier. I am sure the audience will be drawn to each character for different reasons and will enjoy the play very much."

Directed by Ganesh Yadav and written by Suresh Jayaram, the teleplay also stars Shruti Bapna, Anang Desai and Sumukha and will be aired on 25th December at Dish TV & D2H Rangmanch active and Airtel Theatre at 8 pm. It is also available on Zee5.
