Lenskart Strengthens its team, hires top talent

Lenskart, an online retailer of fashionable and stylish eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses recently announced a fresh round of funding of Rs. 135 Crore. Following the investment, the company has made key appointments across leadership ranks. Mayank Batheja has joined Lenskart as ‘AVP - Home Eye Check-up Program’.  Aakratee Vajpai has joined Lenskart as ‘Head of Human Capital’ and Anand Thakur has been appointed as ‘AVP - Technology’.

Mayank Batheja had co-founded Letsintern.com, India’s leading student-employer platform, which has now grown to become world’s largest window to connect the youth with corporates. Letsintern.com was listed among the 20 hottest emerging startups of 2011 by Nasscom. Passionate about people’s management and technology, Mayank has also worked for a boutique consulting firm, Mirabilis Advisory and then in Morocco for the telecom major, Alcatel Lucent, as their regional transformation specialist for the North West & Central Africa Region. At Lenskart, Mayank will be responsible for the company’s Home Eye Check-up Service and will enhance the conveniences offered to customers, setting new benchmarks for the brand. 

Aakratee Vajpai was heading the Human Resource Division for the Delhi Circle of Bharti Airtel before joining Lenskart. She has been instrumental in conceptualizing, designing & rolling out large scale organisational development interventions for Airtel in India & Africa. With her vast experience in the Human Capital domain across its varied facets, she will steer Talent Management for the company.

Anand Thakur, AVP of Technology at Lenskart.com, is an entrepreneur, technology leader and computer scientist with over 11 years of experience and expertise in the areas of e-commerce, start-ups, team management, website development, project execution, and software development. Before joining Lenskart, he was the CEO and Co-Founder at EasyRation Retail Pvt. Ltd (www.easyration.com), one of Delhi-NCR’s most popular online supermarkets.

At Lenskart, Anand is heading the entire technology vertical comprising multiple teams including software engineers, team leads, quality assurance, architects, system administrators and DBAs. He will be responsible for aligning and building technology to support all business initiatives and goals of the enterprise.

The recent round of co-investment at Lenskart.com was led by TPG Growth with participation from Hong Kong-based TR capital for a significant minority stake, along with the existing investor IDG Ventures India. Prior to this, the four-year old startup raised a series B round funding from Ronnie Screwvala’s Unilazer Ventures and IDG Ventures, in February 2013.
