Directed by the critically acclaimed filmmaker Gauri Shinde, the film tugged at hearts as it touched upon the sensitive issues of depression and anxiety. It was a change from the staple Bollywood masala and it earned accolades from critics and audience alike. Speaking about casting the two great actors – Shah Rukh Khan & Alia Bhatt, director Gauri Shinde said, “I don’t write stories keeping any actors in mind. There is lot of hard work that goes into writing a good story and then it is a matter of luck to get actors like them. I work hard on the stories which convince the actors to come on board for the films. I have been lucky that these people said yes to the films immediately after reading the story as they found something worthwhile.”

Alia Bhatt who impressed one and all with her stupendous portrayal said “One of the important things I learned from playing Kaira in 'Dear Zindagi' is to introspect in life and deal with situations, while also enjoying the simple joys of life. Simplifying the complicated is the true mantra to be happy as guided by Dr. Jehangir Khan, who helped Kaira deal with her insecurities. I believe there is a little bit of Kaira in all of us.”

The film revolves around Kaira (Alia Bhatt), a talented cinematographer who is awaiting her life’s biggest break. But deep inside the façade, lies a soul despised and dejected, grappling with various issues in her life. Unsettled and shackled, she reaches out to Dr. Jehangir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan), a psychiatrist in Goa. It’s on his couch, she feels confident about voicing her fears for the first time.
