MCOF asks TRAI to defer NTO 2.0 implementation amid Covid-19 outbreak

The Maharashtra Cable Operators Federation (MCOF) has written to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to suspend the implementation of new tariff regime amendments (NTO 2.0) that rolled out on 1st of March.

The MCOF has asked the regulatory authority to halt the rollout of NTO 2.0 as this would require the Local Cable Operator (LCOs) to regularly visit the customer premises for collection of subscription fees. As per the Government advisory caution has been advised when visiting public spaces and most people are resorting to social distancing to contain the outbreak.

The letter argues that if field executives keep visiting the customer premises their chances of being exposed to the virus will be increased and they might become passive carriers of the virus infecting other people.

The letter also requests deferment of the NTO 2.0 implementation for DTH and IPTV operators to ensure status quo between all stakeholders in the ecosystem. The letter was signed by Arvind Prabhoo, President, MCOF.
