MIB issues licence to four channels in February

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has granted permissions to four channels in February 2017. MSM Worldwide Factual Media has received two downlinking licences for Sony BBC Earth SD and HD. A+E Networks and Network18’s joint venture channel History TV18 HD has received a non-news uplinking licence for Hindi, English, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi and Urdu languages. Shreya Broadcasting’s Hindu Dharam has also acquired non-news uplinking license from the Ministry. 

The MIB issued six licences to We, Shop CJ, Sony Pix 2, Kerala Vision and Mubu TV in December 2016 and three licenses in January 2017 to Star Suvarna HD, Dighvijay TV and Jai Paras TV. 

As per the latest ‘status of permitted satellite TV channels in India’, by the MIB, 892 private satellite TV channels in India have got the permissions. Of these, 391 are news and current affairs channels as 501 are non-news and current affairs channels.
