MIB Permits 821 Private Satellite channels

In a recent document release by The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the total number of permitted satellite television has increased from 798 to 821 by November end. 

There is a clear bifurcation of these channels. It includes a total of 404 of News and Current Affairs channels and a total of 421 of Non-News and current affairs channels.

The report shows that a total of 693 TV channels are permitted to uplink and downlink in the country, while there are 35 TV channels that are permitted to uplink from India but not permitted to downlink in India. Lastly, 93 TV channels are permitted only to downlink into India (uplinked from abroad).

Out of the total 693 channels 382 are News channels and 311 are non-news channels. From the 35 TV channels that are permitted to uplink from India but not downlink 6 are news channels and 29 are non-news channels. And out of the 93 channels that are permitted only to downlink 16 are news channels and 77 are non-news channels.

There has been an addition of about 23 new channels as per the report released by The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Some of the new channels being Set One, Times Now-2, Times Now-3, ET Now-2, NSN News, Satkar, Bhojpuri Cinema, Luck TV, Epic TV, Peace of Mind, Janam Kalinga TV, Blue, Meenakshi TV, ABP Sanjha, VIP News, Prabhatam LIFELINE, Green TV, Orange TV, and a couple of other regional channels.

While the Times Television Network saw three additional channels, there has also been an addition to the Star Network, with Star Sports 1, 2, 3, and 4, Star Sports HD1, HD2, HD3 and HD4, Star Sports Highlights and Star Cricket Asia.
