MIB spends Rs 2790.91 crore on broadcasting in 2021-2022

According to a report released by the government, the actual expenditures of MIB for the fiscal year 2021-2022 is worth Rs 3728.99 crore. The overall budget of the ministry for the year stands at s 4079.71 crore, which comprises a revenue budget of Rs 4058.61 crore and capital of Rs 21. 10 crore, according to the Accounts at Glance 2021-2022 report. According to the report, the overall expenditures of the last four years (Revenue and Capital) were as below:
Rs 3487.62 crore (2017-18)
Rs 4003.27crore (2018-19)
Rs 4032.36 crore (2019-2020)
Rs 3380.44 crore (2020-21)

The expenditure on broadcasting stood at Rs 2790.91 crore for the year 2021-22, whereas it stood at Rs 593.54 crore, and on films, it stood at Rs 259.29 crore.
Grants-in-aid, which amounted to Rs 790.91 crore, was released by MIB to Prasar Bharati in 2021-22. The ministry has also released Rs 8823.60 crore to Prasar Bharati in the past three years, which includes Rs 3124. 76 crore in 2019-20, Rs 29.13 crore in 2020-21, and Rs 2790. 71 crore in 2021-22.
The total receipts of MIB in the consolidated fund during the fiscal year 2021-22 was Rs 2001.80 crore with the revenue account amounting to Rs 2001. 33 crore and the loan and advances account amounting to Rs 0.47 crore.
Rs 36.64 crore Gross Tax Revenue and Rs 1964.69 crore Gross Non-Tax revenue constitutes the total revenue receipts, which includes a on-tax receipt equal to Rs 1809.08 crore.The report also states that broadcasting contributes majorly towards receipts at Rs 1761.25 crore.
Three sectors comprise the Ministry – Films, Broadcasting, Information. There are three autonomous bodies, ten media units/ attached and subordinate offices, two Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), three training institutes.
Under pertinent provisions of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, the electronic Media Monitoring Centre (EMCC) which is set up in the year 2008, keeps a track of news channels in order to check for any violations of programme and advertising codes, EMCC holds the technical infrastructure for acquiring, recording, storing and retrieving on a real-time basis the contents of upto 900 TV channels.
EMCC has been spending Rs 51.66 crore (2019-2020), Rs 13.61 crore (2020-2021), and Rs 18.74 crore (2021-2022) in the previous three years.
Moreover, the receipts of DTH in the past three years were Rs 647.23 crore for the year 2019-2020, Rs 1559.27 crore for the year 2020-2021 and Rs 18. 74 crore for the year 2021-2022.
