MIRROR NOW’s #TrappedInACab campaign makes Impact

As a result of putting people’s issues first and consistent follow-up to bring a change, MIRROR NOW has been successful in its attempt to urge authorities to initiate steps to ensure safety against child lock in cars. On September 5, the State Transport Authority of Delhi made it mandatory for all commercial vehicles to prominently display a sticker that informs passengers on steps to disable the child lock facility available in the car.

In May 2017, MIRROR NOW initiated a campaign demanding removal of child locks in cars used for public transport as a potential security hazard for women travelling alone. A video shot by Faye D’souza educating women to check child locks before boarding cabs (as most crimes against women take place in a cab if a child lock is activated), went massively viral on social media and Whatsapp garnering several lakh views.

MIRROR NOW called upon authorities to demand removal of child locks from cabs or put stickers warning passengers to that effect. Subsequently, a petition to this effect was also submitted to Hon'ble Minister for Surface Transport, Nitin Gadkari. The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) lately took cognizance of MIRROR NOW’S campaign and raised these demands with the Union Transport Ministry and the state transport department. The latter promptly responded, mandating all commercial vehicles to display informative stickers on child locks inside the cars.

Being a channel committed to making lives better for the people of the nation each day, MIRROR NOW has yet again proved its mettle of being the gold standard of Impact Journalism.
