MRUC commences fieldwork across India for IRS 2018-19

The Media Research Users Council (MRUC) has commenced the fieldwork for the 2018-19 edition of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS). As in the previous editions, the IRS 2018-19 Survey is being carried out by Nielsen India. MRUC has released ads in newspapers requesting people to cooperate with Nielsen surveyors, who may come to their homes for conducting an interview.

“We request you and your family members to cooperate with Nielsen surveyors, who may come to your house for conducting an interview. If you wish to verify, you may ask the Nielsen surveyor for an Identity Card,” the ad stated.

The IRS 2017 report was released in January 2018 after a gap of four years. According to IRS 2017, 39 per cent of Indians (12+ years) read newspapers, and 20 per cent of all newspaper readers in 50 Lakh plus population towns read newspapers online.

Billed as the world’s largest readership and consumption survey, IRS is a pan-India readership and consumption study, which provides vital insights on the readership of Newspapers and Magazines, other media consumption like TV, Radio, Internet, and also product ownership information. The IRS 2017 Report covered a full year sample of 320,000 households – the highest ever in the history of any readership study in the world.
