My new role at Zee TV is an amalgamation of work I've done in the past: Namit Sharma

Namit Sharma was recently appointed Programming Head at Zee TV thus bringing to an end his eight year stint at Wizcraft. Sharma’s industry experience spans a period of almost 15 years. He started his career with Multi Screen Media as senior executive producer in 1999. He then joined Cinevistaas as creative director in 2002 and later worked with Yash Raj Films as executive director before moving on to Wizcraft International as Business Head & Chief Creative Director  in the year 2006.

In an exclusive interaction with Adgully, Namit Sharma the newly appointed Programming Head (fiction and non-fiction) of Zee TV, shared about his latest appointment and his thoughts on the television domain today.

“As of now I am actually absorbing everything, as its early days for me at Zee.  I am a person who gets excited by new ideas. The thought as of now is to create wholesome entertainment and deliver it to Zee,” explained Sharma.

Sharma’s prior experience includes  broadcasting with MSM, directing fiction shows  at Cinevistaas,  film production and script writing at Yash Raj and has also been responsible for events and non- fiction properties at Wizcraft. Elaborating on his role at the ZEE, he said, “ It’s an amalgamation of all the work that I’ve done in past right from broadcasting to content generation.”

“I am now ready for the new role and happy to receive this offer from Zee TV. This new role excites me and it is challenging too. This will allow me to essentially utilize my experience across genres and create great programming for Zee,” he added.

Today audiences are way smarter than they have ever been, so how does he plan to deliver in terms of programming to keep them in tune with the offerings. In this regard he says, “Yes they are smart and getting smarter day by day and so we have to catch up with audience on a daily basis as you can’t really fool them. If you deliver what you want to and the audience takes a liking to it, that means they are catching up with your programming.”

“There is enormous distraction available to audience today compared to the choices available a decade back. Media options like YouTube, internet, news channels and others provide them loads of choices. Here the key is to keep evolving on daily basis,” he added.

His appointment, coincides with the upcoming launch of the new season of DID L’il Masters- 3 When asked how the show will be different this season and how it will help participants he said, “In terms of absolute numbers, the participants are over a lakh. In my opinion children learn from what you give to them and so this year the dance forms which we’ve seen have been adapted from the last season. Our thought as a channel is to accept the talent and let them deliver their best.”

Zee TV believes in creating superstars and for them the number of participants does not really matter. According to Sharma, Reality television has given acceptability to art forms, opened up career avenues for many and hence is a gift from television.

“There are loads of plans which need to evolve and grow with time as the year has just started,” concluded Sharma.
