N Ram steps down from his position of Editor-In-Chief of The Hindu

After a long and on-going discussion among the members of Kasturi and Sons Ltd, the publishing company, The Hindu, Veteran journalist and the Editor-In-Chief, N Ram has finally decided to step down from the position of Editor-in-Chief and publisher of The Hindu newspaper and other group publications ' Business Line, Frontline and Sportstar.

On January 9, 2012, in a conversation among to the Board of Directors, Ram declared that Siddharth Varadarajan, Editor of The Hindu, D Sampath kumar, Editor of Business Line, R Vijayasankar, Editor of Frontline, and Nirmal Shekar, Editor of Sportstar, would now have extended editorial responsibilities and also Ram will carry on as a whole time Director of Kasturi and Sons Ltd.

Till a CEO is not appointed, the publishing and printing functions for all publications of the company will be handled by K Balaji, Managing Director, Kasturi and Sons Ltd.

It has been learnt that all the changes will come in result from January 19, 2012. If we look back, sometime in july, 2011, because of the family argument three of the editors, N Ravi as Editor of The Hindu, Malini Parthasarathy as Executive Editor, and Nirmala Lakshman as Joint Editor had to put down on papers.They have been looking for a CEO for a while now and lots of names have been floating around.

Due to clash of ideas among the family, it was for the first time that a non-family member, Siddharth Varadarajan, Editor of The Hindu, came on board in the company. So basically, while the family members continue as Directors of the company, Ram has decided to hand over his post and editorial responsibilities to Varadarajan,.
