Naagin 3: Revenge, mystery, fast-paced plot line – what’s not to like?

Colors hit the jackpot with its supernatural series, ‘Naagin’. Produced by Balaji Telefilms, Season 1 and 2 of ‘Naagin’ topped the viewership of shows on Hindi GECs for several weeks. Season 3 of ‘Naagin’ hit the small screens on June 2, 2018, and has the audience hooked with its story of shape-shifting (Ichchhadhari) naags and naagins and revenge.

‘Naagin 3’ begins where Season 2 had ended – with a key character Rocky killing Shivangi (Mouni Roy), the original Ichchhadhari naagin. A dying Shivangi vows to come back to take her revenge. Season 3 introduces all new characters, but the revenge theme continues.

Episode 1 starts off on a strong note and a fast-paced plotline, where we see a businessman Andy Sehgal (Chetan Hansraj) going ahead with his plans to construct a hotel on a plot of land where an old Shiva temple exists. Ignoring the pleas and warnings of priests about the temple being home to naag raaj and other mythical creatures, Andy decides to demolish the temple.

A storm puts a stop to the demolition work, while the contractor and his workers are killed by several naags.

Andy has three sons – Yuvi and Mahir, with his wife Sumitra (Rakshanda Khan), and Pratham, who he has out of wedlock following his affair with Paulomi. A spoilt brat, Yuvi and his gang of friends decide to party on the plot of land where the Shiva temple stands. There they come across two Ichchhadhari snakes – Roohi (Karishma Tanna) and Vikrant (Rajat Tokas) – who assume human form after waiting for 100 years and prepare to get married on the full moon night. The gang of friends harass Roohi and kill Vikrant, thus setting off the tale of revenge with Roohi vowing to kill off her paramour’s murderers.

More characters central to the plot are introduced, including Bela (Surbhi Jyoti), who is engaged to Yuvi. Bela, who has a heart of gold, agrees to get married to Yuvi to help her father pay off a loan. Meanwhile, Pratham, too, is set to get married to Suhani.

At a party hosted to celebrate Yuvi and Bela’s engagement, enters a mysterious woman, Vish Khanna (Anita Hassanandani), who has been invited by Yuvi. It turns out that Vish is an Ichchhadhari naagin and wants to kill Yuvi, while he escapes, she kills off two of his friends.

There is a lot to hold the viewers’ attention. One can draw comparisons between Bela and Shivanya (Shivangi’s daughter who was killed in Season 2) as both have the innocent, girl-next-door quality. The revenge-seeking Karishma Tanna will draw comparisons with Mouni Roy. And who is Vish Khanna and why does she want to kill Yuvi. What role will Pratham play?

Future episodes will play out this revenge-saga. It will be interesting to see what the opening numbers for the latest season of ‘Naagin’ will reveal and whether the show will match up to the earlier two seasons.
