NBDSA dismisses CJP’s complaint against Zee News

News Broadcasting and Digital Standards Authority (NBDSA) has dismissed a complaint filed by the Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) against Zee News over a programme titled "DNA: Jammu mein zameen ke islamikaran ka DNA test”.

The NBDSA dismissed the complaint saying that “it was barred by limitation and the delay cannot be condoned by the authority.”

CJP accused the Zee News anchor of showing a ‘Jihad diagram propagating various types of jihad in the country categorizing them as soft jihad and hard jihad.”

The organisation also alleged that in a country like India which is “walking a tightrope when it comes to dealing with communal issues, such a brazen display of cooked up concepts and types of Jihad is an attempt to create and propagate Islamophobia amongst the masses.”

According to CJP, the show argued that Muslims own 90% of land in Jammu though it is a Hindu-majority area. The news anchor, according to CJP, termed it as a “conspiracy to turn Hindu-populated Jammu into a Muslim dominated region.”

The NBDSA called Zee News and the complainants for a hearing on October 28, 2021. Lawyers who appeared for Zee Media contended that the “same was barred by limitation,” and that the CJP didn’t disclose this fact.

The lawyers of Zee also argued that the CJP’s complaint was made in March 2020, but it didn’t file a reply within seven days as per the NBDSA Regulations.
