NBSA names Justice Raveendran as Chairperson

The News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA), the self regulatory initiative of the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) has issued a press release stating that Justice R. V. Raveendran, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India has accepted their  invitation to be the Chairperson of the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA).

The press release issued from New Delhi dated 23rd May 2013 states "Justice R V Raveendran, former judge of Supreme Court, has graciously accepted the invitation of the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) to be the Chairperson of the News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) the self regulatory initiative of the NBA.”

Justice R.V. Raveendran after completing his secondary education at Fort High School, Bengaluru, graduated from St. Joseph's College, and later obtained a degree in  Law from Government Law College, Bengaluru, in the year 1967.

Enrolled as an Advocate in March 1968 he practised extensively on the civil side till he was elevated as a Permanent Judge of the Karnataka High Court in February 1993. He served as Chairman of Karnataka State Legal Services Authority for several years and it was during his tenure that Lok Adalats became a popular feature in Karnataka.

Later he went on to become the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in July 2004 and as a Judge of Supreme Court in September 2005.

He has also rendered several landmark decisions in the fields of Civil and Constitutional Law. He has served as the Chairman of Supreme Court Legal Services Committee. He was instrumental in developing mediation across the country when he was Chairman of Mediation & Conciliation Project Committee.   He retired from the Supreme Court as a Senior Judge on 14th October 2011.

Justice Raveendran is presently engaged in giving lectures and writing articles on law related issues and in conducting arbitrations.
