NDTV-Nirmal Lifestyle launches MARKS FOR SPORTS Season II

After the grand success of the first year, NDTV and Nirmal Lifestyle today launched the second year of the “Fit India Movement”, an initiative that aims at changing the way India thinks about fitness and inspires us to become a healthier nation. This year the Campaign sparks a movement that would further encourage people across the country to commit to a healthier and fitter lifestyle.

To launch the initiative, Campaign Ambassador, Ranbir Kapoor joined Dr Prannoy Roy, Executive Co-Chairperson, NDTV and Mr Dharmesh Jain, Chairman & MD, Nirmal Lifestyle along with Mr Ajay Maken, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports in Mumbai. Also present at the launch were India’s tennis stars Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupati, ace cricketer Virendra Sehwag, Ex-football captain of the Indian team and Indian football legend Baichung Bhutia, Bollywood actor & fitness expert Bipasha Basu. Lending their support too for the cause were actor & producer Dia Mirza, and Milind Soman, actor and the Limca Record Holder for Marathons, among others.

Talking about the second year of the campaign, Campaign Ambassador Ranbir Kapoor said, “I believe fitness is not only about playing sports and being active, but it’s also equally important to eat healthy. I am always actively involved in sports, be it cricket or football.”

Speaking at the event, Dr Prannoy Roy, Executive Co-Chairperson, NDTV, said, “. If you are fit in your mind, you will be fit in your body; if you are fit you are a better human being. I hail from a family of boxers and since my childhood, I have been as involved in sports and outdoor activities as I was in studies”

As part of the Campaign, NDTV-Nirmal Lifestyle has launched The Fittest City Contest across the 6 cities of Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Kolkata to spread the fitness message. The contest would judge the participating cities on various parameters such as physical camps, surveys on health habits, government statistics, testing of fitness levels of children across schools, marathons, other sporting events as well as online campaigns, as these cities compete for marks for the ‘Fittest City’

Each city will have a fitness or sporting personality as their City Ambassador, who will help in spreading awareness about fitness and the importance of a leading a healthy lifestyle. Fitness junkie Bipasha Basu for Mumbai, noted cricketer Virender Sehwag for Delhi, India’s Tennis star Sania Mirza for Hyderabad, ace Football player Baichung Bhutia supporting Kolkata, Tennis Champion Mahesh Bhupati for Bangalore and Olympic bronze medalist boxer Vijender Singh for Chandigarh will be playing pivotal roles in educating everyone. These City Ambassadors will not only share their fitness mantras, but will also motivate everyone to support the Campaign and make it a success.

According to Dharmesh Jain, Chairman & MD of Nirmal Lifestyle, “Fitness is an integral part of our lives. The Marks for Sports Campaign along with the Fit India Movement encourage us to be fitter and healthier. I hope this is an annual feature. We aim to encourage people to reach their fitness thresholds.”

Marks For Sports was launched in March 2011 with the core belief that if schools, and more importantly different boards of education, include Sports as a part of the main curriculum, then parents, as well as children, will devote more time to sports.
