Netflix tests low cost mobile-only subscription for Tier 2, 3 markets: Reports

According to media reports, Netflix is testing a low-cost subscription plan to target the mobile friendly Indian audience, who form a big chunk of the market in Tier 2 and 3 markets. The OTT platform will reportedly charge as low as Rs 250 per month as subscription fee for the mobile-only plan, which is half the price of their cheapest plan for desktop subscribers. The video quality and number of concurrent screens available to users will change for the mobile plan users.

At present, only select users can avail the mobile plan during its test phase, and depending on results, Netflix will take a decision on rolling out the plan on a pan-India scale. Despite testing a low cost plan, Netflix continues to remain the costliest Video on Demand platform as compared to its Indian competitors.
