Netizens praise Made in India product Glance

A made-in-India consumer technology platform innovating to become a global category creator is a rare event. Recently, tech enthusiasts, influencers as well as consumers across the country went berserk when they realized that Glance, a made-in-India lock screen platform, has done exactly that!

Glance is a consumer internet company that has created highly disruptive digital platforms. In 2019, it redefined the way the internet is consumed by bringing it to the lock screen of smartphones, removing the need for searching and downloading apps. It was the first to recognize the power of the lock screen and transformed it into an intelligent ‘surface’ for premium content and rich, meaningful user engagement across categories like gaming, entertainment, shopping, and more. In 2021, Glance made the lock screen LIVE, and extended the Glance experience to other surfaces such as smart TVs as well.

Fast forward to June 6, 2022, global tech giant Apple announced at the Worldwide Developers Conference that it is set to upgrade to a “Glanceable” lock screen as part of its iOS 16 rollout. This is to be a utility-first surface that comes with a wallpaper collection, widget gallery, and a notification feature called ‘LIVE Activities’.

Soon after, on June 16, 2022, Naveen Tewari, Founder and CEO of InMobi group took to Twitter and welcomed Apple to the lock screen club, shared Glance’s journey over the last 3 years and spoke about how it pioneered lock screen content, globally..

With this, netizens flocked by the thousands to celebrate this Indian innovation on social media. #GlanceMakingIndiaProud and #GlanceDidItFirst started trending on Twitter as they shared their experience of engaging with the lock screen technology innovated by Glance, through interactive live content and features. With more than 3,500 tweets in less than 12 hours, both #GlanceMakingIndiaProud and #GlanceDidItFirst trended at no. 2 on Twitter. Users, influencers, government officials, and the startup ecosystem were amongst those to express how proud they were to see global giants take inspiration from Indian startups, and lauded Glance for being the lock screen innovator.

Currently present on over 400 million smartphones across Asia, Glance’s vision of the lock screen has been backed by some of the biggest names in venture capital, technology, telecom, and smartphone manufacturers. It has the financial and strategic backing of Mithril Capital, Google, and Jio Platforms, and has deep integration on the lock screen of most major Android OEMs.
