NGC's 'Emergency Room' to hit TV screens on Aug 12th

Known for bringing the best of infotainment to the world, National Geographic Channel, in association with Medanta Hospital, announced the launch of the ‘Emergency Room’ series. This series will showcase the dramatic and heart wrenching episodes that take place within the walls of a hospital.  Shot inside the Emergency Room of Medanta, the series will encompass the story of doctors and hospital staff that work relentlessly to defeat death and heal sickness as well as the emotional tale of the ailing patients looking for a medicine or a miracle to save them. The show was launched at a press conference in Delhi today; the launch was addressed by actor Irrfan Khan, Debarpita Banerjee, Vice President, Marketing, National Geographic and FOX International Channels, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta and Anil Shukla, Addl. Commissioner of Police: Traffic Police, Delhi. The series goes on air on August 12, every Monday and Tuesday at 10 pm on National Geographic Channel.

From the anticipation and anxiety in the Emergency Room, to the humour and sadness in the Recovery Room - the series looks beyond a hospital’s flashing blue lights and presents the real picture of life in the medical world. Talking about the series, Debarpita Banerjee, Vice President, Marketing, National Geographic and FOX International Channels, said, “National Geographic Channel is known to showcase content that is thought provoking and educates our audiences at the same time. True to this brand philosophy, we are extremely pleased to present Emergency Room - a first of its kind initiative by a TV Channel and a Hospital. Through this series, we wish to showcase the humanity amidst syringes, medicines and drips; thereby spreading awareness about what exactly transpires inside the emergency room of a hospital. Recognizing the need to sensitize people and taking the lead in making them emergency ready, National Geographic Channel also launched the ‘Be Emergency Ready!’ campaign as a build-up to the series. Through the campaign, the urgency and necessity of being emergency sensitive was reinforced, urging people to do their bit during difficult situations. The campaign included on-air films with National Award winning actorIrrfan Khan, emergency ready workshops in corporate houses and an online activation as well. The campaign was supported by the Delhi Traffic Police.

Commenting on the launch Irrfan Khan said, “There is a certain negligence and dehumanization that plagues the society today. I am glad that a credible entity like National Geographic Channel has come forth to take forward the cause of sensitizing people about emergency preparedness. The ‘Emergency Room’ series will surely be insightful for viewers and help them recognize real life tensions, and how it affects those who are dealing with it.”
