Noopur Datye appointed as a Jury President at D&AD 2023

The prestigious Design and Art Direction (D&AD) Awards for creative excellence have announced the jury presidents for the year 2023. D&AD 2023 awards are grouped across six categories - Advertising, Design, Craft, Culture, Impact and Special awards. Noopur Datye, co-founder of the Ek type from India has been named as the jury president for Type Design and Lettering.

Ek Type, her collaborative foundry has gained global recognition for designing high quality typefaces for Indian languages. They have designed several multi-script type families and individual fonts for sixteen of the many scripts used in India. Their work has won several design awards including Graphite and Wooden pencils at D&AD, TDC’s Certificate of Excellence, Communication Arts and the Black Elephant at Kyoorius Design Awards.

Noopur is a calligrapher and type designer, whose work includes custom Devanagari and Bengali typefaces for Star TV, and open source typefaces Mukta (Gujarati, Gurmukhi), Baloo (Gujarati, Bangla), Noto (Dogra, Gunjala Gondi, Masaram Gondi, Nandinagari) and the Anek Mukti-script Family. 

Noopur is in awe of the diversity of scripts in India and across the world. She believes in retaining the unique visual identities of different scripts and giving them equal importance in multi-script scenarios. As a jury president of D&AD, she is excited to interact with global type design exponents who share her belief.
