Nothing’s above national security: Subhash Chandra supports ban on NDTV

Dr Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Essel Group and Zee Media and Rajya Sabha Member, is one of the very few from the media fraternity who has come out in support of the ban imposed on NDTV India by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB).

In a series of tweets, Chandra affirmed that there is nothing above the security of the nation and came out in support of the ban on NDTV India. In fact, he believed the one-day ban on NDTV was not enough given the gravity of the issue and said that the ban should have been a lifelong one.

Coming out strongly on the issue, Chandra further tweeted that should NDTV approach the Court, then there, too, the channel should be pulled up by the Court.

He also mentioned that during the term of the previous UPA government, there were talks of imposing a ban on Zee. At that time, NDTV, the so-called intellectuals and even the Editors Guild of India had remained silent.

“Aaj galat ko galat kehne par kuch log aapatkaal keh rahe hai (today, if some someone calls out a wrong thing, then it is termed as a Emergency situation),” Chandra noted.

As is known, the MIB has ordered NDTV India to go off air for 24 hours starting from the midnight of November 9, 2016, for violating the programming code by revealing sensitive information during the coverage of the Pathankot terror attack in January this year. The ban has been widely criticised by the media fraternity.
