O&M celebrates as Piyush Pandey is the Ambassador for White Pencil and Godfather at Berlin School

After the stupendous performance at Creative Abby 2011, Oglivy India has two more reasons to celebrate. Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman, & Creative Director, Ogilvy South Asia, has accepted an invitation to be the Ambassador of the D&AD White Pencil. This role will be vital in spreading the word about the biennial White Pencil award and driving the industry worldwide to direct its creative powers towards a greater humanitarian good.

Close on the heels of which Pandey will also attend select program modules and serve as an honorary industry mentor to senior creative executives as they complete the Berlin School's five-module global Executive MBA in Creative Leadership program.

Which implies that Pandey joins previous "Godfathers" who have also generously donated their time and energy to the Berlin School in the past, such as Berlin School President Michael Conrad (Leo Burnett Worldwide), John Gough (Distraction Formats), Keith Reinhard (DDB Worldwide), Seymour Stein (Sire Records) and most recently Sir John Hegarty (BBH).

The launch event of D&AD White Pencil was held in London on Tuesday, April 12th. The partner cause chosen by D&AD for the inaugural award is Peace One Day, the global charity working to establish Peace Day (September 21) in the calendar to make it a day which everyone around the world can engage with and observe. The D&AD White Pencil award will be given to an idea that raises awareness or changes behavior around a pressing social, environmental or health issue, as defined by the White Pencil Brief.

Talking on this exciting moment and about being an Ambassador of D&AD White Pencil, Pandey says, "I am very delighted about it because this one is a fantastic initiative. The initiative is open to everybody and not just the creative industry. For me to be a part of this journey to ignite the passion of people in various countries I think is something I feel very excited about."

"The initiative is very democratic in its participation and calls out to every to join hands and come out with this great idea. In my opinion this will be a creative cum effectiveness award. The intent is very determined and it is a very audacious goal but its a great way to motivate youngsters to come up with ideas that can affect the human life and thinking," he adds.

On the other hand about being names as the 'Godfather' for the Berlin School, Pandey jokes that it makes him feel old. However he further adds, "The concept of the Berlin School is a fantastic thing and I have been associated with the School for sometime now. The School aims at training the so called 'leaders' of tomorrow to have a creative bent of mind. The beauty of this course is to recgonise what you have done in life and then to try and open up your mind to create an even greater impact on the market."

The purpose of the course is to expose students to people who have succeeded in life but not through the conventional job choices. He signs off adding, "The module really tries to follow the phrase 'open up your mind'. While at Berlin School I will be spending 1 to 2 days in various modules, being the Ambassador for White Pencil I will aim at creating a more impactful response and motivate the youth to come up with that one big idea that can cause a change in the society." | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
