Oprah rumoured to be departing from CBS; to concentrate on OWN

It was almost about ten years ago that the first set of rumours erupted about Oprah Winfrey leaving her famous chat show. However that did not happen and Oprah has, since then, been at the top of things, literally. According to a Nielsen report, Oprah's talk show has been on top of the ratings for 547 consecutive weeks now ' that is over 10 whole years! It is estimated that her chat show attracts over 6.94 million viewers.

The talk of her exiting the stations in 2011 is coming up again. Oprah Winfrey has joined hands with Discovery Communications to establish a cable network unit called OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Although OWN would benefit hugely with Oprah's daily presence on tele, it can also prove to be a risky proposition as there might be a phenomena of audience deflection towards another platform.

CBS Television Distribution said that the decision is Oprah's completely. The company went on to say that Oprah has been loved by one and all and if she decides to continue with her show, the company would be more than glad to continue the business association with her. Oprah's deal with CBS is going to expire at the end of 2009.
