Manish Sharma, President and CEO, Panasonic India and South Asia, and Will Yang, Brand Director, Oppo India, describe the journey of their respective companies in 2017, as well as their key expectations from 2018. While Panasonic witnessed favourable festive season in the year just gone by, Oppo, too, saw exciting developments in the electronic gadgets space. More tech innovations and transitions are on the anvil in 2018.

Major transition in product & positioning in 2018 for Panasonic India

Manish Sharma, President and CEO, Panasonic India and South Asia:
“The year 2017 has been productive for the company and the industry as well. With the effect of GST completely settling down, the company is right on track towards achieving the targeted goal for the year. We are hopeful of achieving 27 per cent y-o-y growth by the end of FY17-18.

We also witnessed a favourable festive season in 2017, with August and September recording the highest sales growth of more than 50 per cent. TV and washing machines were the hero segments for us during the year. While TV sales recorded 28 per cent growth as compared to last year, washing machines witnessed a growth of 25 per cent.”

Expectations from 2018

“2018 rings in 100 years of technological innovation for Panasonic and we will be witnessing a major transition in our product portfolio as well as positioning and offerings. We will strengthen as a comprehensive consumer electronics maker to offer solutions that fulfils the wishes of customers, while improving our individual products.”

More ground-breaking technologies from Oppo India in 2018

Will Yang, Brand Director, Oppo India:
“The year 2017 has been exciting regarding the trends that have come up in the Electronic Gadgets sector. 4G, digital payments through smartphones, free voice calls, phones with dual cameras and Artificial Intelligence are some of the breakthroughs we have witnessed so far. The availability of 4G meant higher data transfers, easy access to the internet and incredibly high voice quality. At the same time, for a smooth user experience, a lot of brands have started incorporating AI in their interface. The users will benefit a lot from these new developments, and in the future, we would also like to focus more on these innovations and cater to the needs of our consumers.

Our brand has always concentrated on innovations and brings out the best for our consumers. Being a part of the cluttered smartphone market, growth in technology is the only way a brand will flourish in the coming year. In 2018, we look at introducing more ground-breaking technologies for our consumers and meet their demands. The technology space is excited about Artificial Intelligence, as it is the next big thing. As for the red flags, with the market having so many competitors, a brand has to offer more solutions to its consumers to stand out in the market.”
