PhonePe partners with Mumbai Metro One to offer digital QR-based ticketing

PhonePe, India’s leading fintech platform today announced that it has partnered with Mumbai Metro One to provide frictionless, contactless and quick payment options to commuters across Mumbai Metro Line 1. Commuters who use these services will now be able to book digital QR-based tickets on the PhonePe Switch platform. They just need to scan the QR ticket generated from PhonePe at AFC entry and exit gates of the Mumbai Metro to complete their journey. They will no longer have to stand in queues to get a ticket or buy a pass. Additionally, this partnership also helps Mumbai Metro One authorities to manage the operations smoothly. 

PhonePe aims to solve the pressing need for digital payments and ticketing options for public transport users in the country. As part of this, the company has partnered with Mumbai Metro One and enabled 3 key services for commuters which includes - booking of tickets/passes on PhonePe Switch, recharge of the physical smart card on Switch and lastly, scan and pay at the Metro station counters to get tokens.

Ltd to expand options for digital tickets that includes Single Journey Ticket (SJT), Return Journey Ticket (RJT), Store Value Pass and Trip Pass, for commuters using Mumbai Metro Line 1. We are committed to introducing new and innovative technologies in metro ticketing for convenience and safety of our commuters and are also progressively moving to a digital cashless economy. This partnership with PhonePe is a step in that direction.”

Commuters can book Mumbai Metro tickets on PhonePe in a few simple steps. All they need to do is to log in to PhonePe and go to the Switch section. Under the Taxi & Metro category of PhonePe Switch, the Mumbai Metro icon will be visible. The commuters just need to enter their origin and destination stations and make the payment via UPI/Debit or Credit Card/PhonePe Wallet. Upon successful payment, a digital QR code will be generated within the PhonePe app itself which needs to be scanned at the entry and exit points of the Metro stations to complete the journey. Additionally, the commuter may also purchase the Store Value Pass and Trip based Pass within this section.
