Post acquisition by BuzzFeed, HuffPost India shuts down operations

HuffPost, which was recently acquired by BuzzFeed, has shut down its India operations. The website carried the message that stated, “As of November 24, HuffPost India will no longer be publishing content. For more great global content, please visit HuffPost.com. We thank you for your support and readership.”

BuzzFeed’s acquisition of HuffPost is part of a strategic partnership between Verizon Media and BuzzFeed across content and advertising announced last week. The deal also includes Verizon Media acquiring a minority stake in BuzzFeed. As part of the agreement, HuffPost will continue to contribute to Verizon Media’s portfolio as an official publishing partner.

BuzzFeed plans to extend its lines of business across Huffpost’s complementary demographic. BuzzFeed News and HuffPost will operate as separate, distinct news organisations globally.
