Prasad Kadam: People will always be curious to watch act of real incidents

Director Prasad Kadam says that shows made on real life incidents will continue to intrigue the audience. He says that such shows will always do well.

“Common man will always be curious to watch dramatizations of real incidents. That's the reason why shows like Crime Petrol worked so well for so long. There always will be an audience for such content. It's not escapism. It's just human curiosity. It depends on director to director how honest he/she is when such stories are picked,” he says.

On OTT and even in some films there is a lot of brutality and violence, and this is inevitable, he says, adding, “The brutality and violence has always existed in cinema. The makers have always been dependent on contemporary techniques to create it on screen. In earlier days, it didn't feel so real, so we didn't find it so brutal. Now, with the advancement in VFX techniques and the prosthetic makeup techniques, we can create some very gory and brutal scenes that look very real on screen. I don't mind watching violent scenes as long as I am intrigued by the storytelling. There are few filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino who face the backlash for having heavy graphical violence in their films. But I enjoyed few such films and shows, because they were not dependent on the brutality, but the violence was used as a part of the narrative.”

The director adds that for a film to do well in the theatre, the audience need to be treated to an entire experience. “If you talk about the Indian market, for theatrical releases, larger than life films are working, nothing else. Audiences will go to the theatre for an experience now, and not only for good content. They have adapted themselves to watch good films and shows on OTT. If you talk about OTT platforms, I feel there is a scope for everything. If Mirzapur works, so does the Panchayat. A well-made content with good promotion will never fail on OTT. That world is not restricted by any particular genre,” he says.
