Pukar, a dream come true ; says Ranvijay

He needs no introduction. You say Roadies, and you hear millions of girls chanting his name, yes you guessed it right, its Ranvijay Singh. Who knew that the boy, who started out as a contestant on a reality show MTV Roadies, would become the most popular host for the same show; and did movies of different genres without, in his own words, having a Godfather in the industry.

His father is an Army officer with the Indian Army, so it’s only apt that his upcoming show Pukaar (potential hit) also be about him being in the army. He made his Bollywood debut with the film Toss and worked in two other films vis a vis London Dreams and Action Replayy with Vipul Shah.

After working in films, he is once again pairing up with director Vipul Shah but this time for the small screen.

Talking exclusively about his show Pukaar, to our Adgully, he said that it’s a father son story, which shows the journey of a son from being the apple of his father’s eyes to being responsible for a family losing their other son.

“It’s a tricky situation and we don’t know how to solve it and that’s something I don’t think anybody has ever played a father- son strange relationship. The mother is playing for both the sides and the father has its own way of going about things and I have my own way. And I have decided that all my army people are out there, the army men are fighting the enemies on the field and I have decided that I will fight the enemies who are inside our own country," he added.

He also revealed that, it’s a war within the country with the people who are living in the country and exploiting its people. Both father and son are going in the same direction but in a different way and they don’t see eye to eye and as successful as the guy is as an army officer, his only wish is to get acceptance from his father.

"'Any success that you achieve in life doesn’t matter if you don’t have the acceptance from your parents. So that’s the dilemma of the character," Ranvijay believes.

When asked that you come from an army background, how much did that help you in preparing for your role, he said, “Everything. From the demeanor of an army officer and to the way one speaks, but you also have to make it massy. I can’t constantly use words like ROGER THAT because that is like alienating a lot of people who don’t understand that. You have to keep in mind the sensibility of who you are catering to, your audience, and give them a little bit of the reality of the situation.”

Interestingly, what prompted him to play a fictional character on the Indian television is the fact that he is playing the role of an army officer, something that had been his aspiration when he was young and also the fact that it was his much beloved Vipul Shah who offered him this role.

Talking about Vipul Shah, he happily mentioned that he has worked on 2 films with him and trusts his sensibility, and he feels the same way about the army, and what he thinks about action and drama together.

Revealing more about his journey in the industry, Ranvijay says that, it has been incredible but he doesn’t believe in looking back thinking that have accomplished this, and achieved that. He thinks everything you do in your life should take you further; the graph of your life should be looking upwards. “Nobody launched me, but even if it’s a reality show on a niche channel or it’s a video on YouTube. Even if it’s a movie that didn’t not do well commercially but I put my work out there, I want people to say, or for myself, that you know what I did a good job, it’s reasonable, it’s not over the top, it’s something that I relate to, it’s fun and I am happy with that. It’s going good. I have done 10-11 films, so many episodes of roadies, stunt mania and other shows.”

Discussing about the challenges that he faced while working on a fictional show, he said that he thought of it as a big film. "It’s like a film is of 2 hours with 5 action sequences. This is a 60hour film. It’s like a 12 film deal. In a way it’s like I go to a film set and I do the same kind of work as I would do on this show. The only difference is that we are not shooting content for 2 hours but for 24 hours," he added.

Making reference to the current television scenario he said that the story will not be exploited like if story line is not working well, so one just reincarnates a character or get certain person married. There won’t be any exaggeration. It’s a 24 episodes deal and its done.

Talking about his future plans, he mentioned that “I am doing a few films; one is Sharafat Gayi Tel Lene which is releasing on 9th Jan. I am doing another season of the show that I work on as well as producing another show, films and writing scripts”.

Since he recently got married he said that he needs some time off to spend it with his wife. Concluding the conversation, he said that his biggest inspirations in the industry are Vipul Shah, Raghu-Rajiv and Nagesh Kukunoor who are more like his family.
