Radio Mirchi re-creates the magic of the legendary showman Raj Kapoor

On Friday, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, India’s favourite radio station paid tribute to the evergreen legend Raj Kapoor in its own innovative way. On the popular retro show Purani Jeans, RJ Anmol gave his listeners the once in a life time opportunity to relive the magical moments of this showman of the millennium. In the novel initiative ‘Bus Itna Sa Ka Khwab Hai’, Anmol took the listeners on a nostalgic life journey of Raj Kapoor through a live show on a bus! Hopping on the wagon were a lucky few listeners of Radio Mirchi. Taking through the life story was the legend’s youngest son Rajiv Kapoor. Starting from the historical RK Studio and culminating to his statue at Bandstand, Rajiv shared interesting and unheard aspects of Raj Kapoor’s life with RJ Anmol and Mirchi listeners.

For the very first time in the history of radio industry, an RJ celebrated the legend’s birth anniversary by conducting a Live show on the road. Mirchi fans and lovers got an exclusive chance to relive the magnificent experience Live on their favourite show Purani Jeans with the charismatic RJ Anmol and charming Rajiv Kapoor.

The nostalgic journey of ‘Bus Itna Sa Khwab Hai’ started with the momentous tour of the historical RK Studios. At the studio, fans got a glimpse of all the trophies that were awarded to Raj for his astounding work in the trophy room. The enthusiastic group then proceeded to the theatre room that holds the old camera. Fans also warmed up to the set of the first ever dream sequence in Indian cinema for the movie Awara. The journey to RK Studio was concluded by exploring the cottage where Raj Kapoor used to wind up after a long day at shoot. Rajiv Kapoor also shared many more amazing gems from his father’s life as he led the troupe of overwhelmed fans with RJ Anmol, including the story of the award that brought tears to the eyes of the much-acclaimed legend.

Listeners along with Rajiv Kapoor and RJ Anmol also made a strategic visit to a South Indian restaurant which Raj Saab favored and also had Brun Muska at an Irani café that he was partial to! Also joining and adding to the merriment was Nanjibhai – part of the troupe of noted musician duo Shankar-Jaikishan who created the music for most of the RK Films. The tour ended on a nostalgic note for everyone as Rajiv Kapoor shared space with his father’s statue situated at Bandstand.

Commenting on this occasion Rajiv Kapoor said, “Raj Kapoor is truly an evergreen and eternal legend! There is no actor like Raj Kapoor today and even after 60 years people watch and appreciate his films. Till the time people love him, he will always be with us. I would like to thank Radio Mirchi and my friend Anmol for making my father’s birth anniversary a memorable one. It was truly a nostalgic journey for me to recollect the memories of yesteryears along with some of his ardent fans.”
And that’s not all. In the coming week Mirchi Listeners on ‘Bus Itna Sa Khwab Hai’ will get the opportunity to pay homage to the golden voice of the Hindi Cinema Fraternity – Mohammad Rafi. On the birth anniversary of Rafi Sahab, Purani Jeans with RJ Anmol will relive the rare moments of the legend that still live in our hearts through his magical music.
