Ramayan re-telecast on DD garners 170 mn viewership for first 4 episodes

The re-telecast of Ramanand Sagar’s mythological series, ‘Ramayan’, on Doordarshan is getting huge traction once again, over 30 years since it was first telecast on DD. 

According to the BARC-Nielsen study, the first 4 episodes of ‘Ramayan’ aired on Saturday, March 28 (2 episodes) and on Sunday, March 29 (2 episodes) garnered a total viewership of 170 million [HSM / HSM Urban/ 2+/]. This makes the viewership for ‘Ramayan’ an all-time high among serials in Hindi GECs. The show was the highest rated in urban and megacities. 

The first episode, aired on Saturday, March 28 at 9 am garnered viewership of 34 million, which went up to 45 million for the second episode aired at 9 pm the same day. The viewership numbers dipped slightly to 40 million for the third episode aired on Sunday, March 29 at 9 am, before shooting up to 51 million for the fourth episode aired at 9 pm.

The first four episodes of ‘Ramayan’ garnered an average of 28.7 million impressions. The cumulative reach of the four episodes stood at 93.3 million [BARC, Week 13 (March 28 to April 3, 2020), HSM 2+, Time Band Report: 09:00-10:00 & 21:00-22:00]. 

All the four episodes of ‘Ramayan’ garnered 6.9 billion viewing minutes. On an average, each episode of ‘Ramayan’ got 42.6 million tune-ins:

March 28 (9 am): 1.2 billion viewing minutes

March 28 (9 pm): 1.8 billion viewing minutes

March 29 (9 am): 1.6 billion viewing minutes

March 29 (9 pm): 2.3 billion viewing minutes
