Randeep Hooda, Tiger Shroff bestowed with Punjabi Icon Awards 2016

India is a country that brings together diversities – of culture, religions, traditions, languages and communities. Out of these, Punjabis are the most colourful, welcoming, energetic, fun and full-of-life people. They stand strong together against the enemies in our Indian army and also assemble to celebrate their festivals like Baisakhi. This year too, on the occasion of Baisakhi, the Punjabi Cultural Heritage board hosted the Punjabi Icon Awards and honoured the eminent Punjabi achievers from different walks of the life.

Baisakhi is a Punjabi festival that farmers traditionally observe as thanksgiving by expressing their gratitude for abundant harvest & praying for prosperity in future. PCHB is spearheading the promotion of Punjabi Culture & Heritage since many years by organizing various Socio Cultural programmes. The highlight of the event was Glittering Award Ceremony whereby personalities who have excelled in different are honoured with prestigious ‘Punjabi Icon Awards’.

The programme, this year, witnessed electrifying performance by Popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh. Additionally, one of the best stand-up comedians Rajiv Thakur performed at the event and left the audiences in splits. Anchored by the gorgeous Satinder Satti, the event entertained and brought together the Punjabis under one roof to celebrate like one. Other Bollywood personalities present at the event were Gulshan Grover, Rohit Roy etc.

This year’s award winners were Randeep Hooda (Bollywood Actor), Tiger Shroff (Youth Icon) Prabhu Chawla (Senior Editor), Prahlad Kakar (Ad Man), Pooja Bhatt (Bollywood Actress), Ms. Ruby Dhalla (Former MP, Canadian Congress), Surender Singh Kandhari (Al Dobowi Group – Dubai), Vivek Chand Burman (Dabur Group), Rajinder Singh Chadha (Wave Group), Jaiveer Shergill (Senior Advocate SC), among others.
Shri Charan Singh Sapra, Head of Punjabi Culture Heritage Board and Congress Leader commented, “I am extremely delighted with the way Punjabi Icon Awards has shaped up in all these years. The idea is to award personalities who excel in different fields. Our vision is to inspire the young generations and motivate them, encourage them to emulate these icons and make the nation proud. The main objective of the organisation, PCHB, is to promote the rich culture and heritage of Punjab and Punjabis among the younger generation in Mumbai.”
The awards were held in Mumbai on 10th April at Matoshree Club Lawns.
