Raveena Tandon to endorse Riso Rice Bran Oil

Actress-Mother Raveena Tandon publicly endorsed the nutritional qualities of Riso Rice Bran Oil in Mumbai today. “I not only endorse RISO but also use it in our cooking at home. With the kind of lifestyle and eating habits we have these days, the edible oil we use in our cooking has to offer the best in nutritional values, without compromising on taste. I find Riso is perfectly suited for our lifestyle as well as our palate,” Mrs.Tandon declared at a press conference here today.

"Product of the Year" is a global consumer recognition standard that celebrates champions and rewards the best innovations in consumer products done through an independent consumer survey across the country. Indeed, within the first year of its launch, RISO was awarded by consumers, the prestigious Product of the Year 2013 Title in the Cooking Mediums & Edible Oil Category. This 100% face-to-face independent survey is conducted by Nielsen across 18,000 respondents in 24 markets in India and is the largest survey of its kind.

The intensive Nielsen-Product of the Year survey also goes beyond the voting to understand consumer choice parameters and potential by identifying preferred product feature, evaluating purchase and switch intent, understanding purchase criteria. This is complemented with several in-depth focus groups amongst men and women to unearth key latent triggers and trendspots to aid portfolio re-engineering for the participating companies.

Product of the Year is present in 39 countries and is constantly seeking out innovations that change the market in a significant way.  Launched in India six years ago, globally Product of the Year has been the seal of distinction that consumers have relied on for over 25 years.

Some of the most eminent brands that have been participating over the years in India and across various countries are ITC, Tata Chemicals, Tata Docomo, Godrej Consumer Products, Wipro, Unilever, Nestle, L’Oreal, Procter & Gamble, Reckitt Benckiser, Johnson & Johnson, DANONE, Heinz, Nokia, Philips, Samsung etc for innovations from product to packaging and anything that results in a key consumer benefit, resulting in an average sales increase of over 20% and in some case even 135%!

Mr. Vinay Chawla, Director Kamani Oil Industries, says, “There are thousands of  health conscious consumers who are adopting Riso as the sole cooking medium for their family. Riso is produced by the  process of physical refining which helps retain the all important nutrient, ORYZANOL which works positively on our Health.

Rice Bran Oil is a unique cooking oil which is a value added product produced from Rice Bran, a by-product of the Rice milling industry. Rice Bran Oil is rich in oryzanol, a natural anti-oxidant which helps to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides. This is based on numerous studies conducted internationally and in India.

There are 3 different fatty acids found in oils that we consume. Saturated Fatty Acids (SAFA), Monounsaturated Fatty Acids (MUFA) and Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFA) which are required by our body in the right proportion. Any imbalance of these proportions in the cooking oil can lead to a rise in unsuitable cholesterol levels. The AHA (American Heart Association) and WHO (World Health Organisation) recommend an oil which is rich in SAFA: MUFA: PUFA in proportion of 1:1.5:1 and the nearest naturally occurring oil is Rice Bran Oil, therefore making it the preferred oil for achieving desired cholesterol levels and preventing heart and other related ailments.

Dr. Meena Mehta, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, SNDT University who has done extensive research on edible oils and Rice Bran Oil in particular said, “Rice Bran Oil is rich in Vitamin E complex, Tocopherols and Tocotrienols, a unique antioxidant known as gamma Oryzanol, high quantities of phytosterols, polyphenols and squalene. Compared to other cooking oils, rice bran oil has a longer shelf life because of these antioxidants. These compounds are nutritionally very valuable and it appears to be the richest source of tocopherols and tocotrienols. Hence Rice Bran Oil not only has a good fatty acid profile, but also is a rich source of antioxidants and micronutrients.”

Adds Rajiv Behere, VP, Marketing, “Apart from the nutritutional  benefits ,RISO shines out the flavor of the food cooked in it. Whether you want to fry, sauté, bake, use it as salad dressing, Riso Rice Bran Oil is perfect for all kinds of cooking. It has a very high smoke point and hence prevents breakdown at high temperatures and extends shelf life of the food cooked in it. Being MUFA rich the oil can be re-used without losing its nutritive value.”
