RNI to digitize newspaper registration process

Registrar of Newspapers in India (RNI) is intending to fully digitize the process of newspaper registration. As of now, it is a time-consuming process and can take many months. The RNI intends to bring down the time for registration to just a week.
The process in this regard has started, and will be completed by March. The ministry of information and broadcasting, which oversees the entire process, is learned to have initiated the process.
A couple of weeks back, the government authorities have announced that the government is shelving the proposal which mandates that digital media is registered under the law intended for the registration of print media in India.
The proposal to include this clause was moved by the ministry of information and broadcasting as part of amending the Press and Registration of Books (PRB) Act, 1867.
