Roposo: The new age platform for Citizen Journalism

Short video social media platform, Roposo, has always served as a democratic platform where people can showcase their talent across different genres and connect with fellow Indians. This, however, is now reaching another level with the mobile platform successfully becoming a podium for citizen journalism. Among the different categories (channels) available on Roposo, including the likes of music, films, sports and spirituality, the platform's 'News' channel is showing significant growth in terms of activity and content.

Users on Roposo are sharing their opinions on current affairs, matters of grave concern, sharing video snippets of various newsworthy events, and even uploading live breaking news items of national or regional importance. User engagement on news-related content is gradually picking up as people are not only getting new sources of information but also getting unbiased and varied perspectives from young India.

One such Lucknow-based citizen journalist, Haider, who has over 15k followers on Roposo says, “Unlike most social media video platforms that focus on dance and music, I feel that Roposo has redefined MoJo (mobile journalism) to a great extent. Not only does it allow people to share news or their opinions, it also promotes the culture of awareness and literacy. In fact, as a citizen journalist who actively engages in news related content, I find it impressive that even the most local news, that can never make it to established news channels, gets highlighted and shared on the platform.”

Be it a businessman in Bangalore, a student in Mumbai, a homemaker in Kolkata or a farmer in Haryana, people from different walks of life expressing themselves freely on different aspects of national or local importance via this app.

“We have a lot of voices in our country that are speaking now, but we have a lot more that needs to be heard. With this new wave of citizen journalism on our platform, we hope to give Indians a platform where they can connect with people and share their opinions on various affairs,” said Mayank Bhangadia, CEO and cofounder of Roposo.
