Sachin Tendulkar launches 'ShuddhPaaniSwastha Bharat' with Livpure Foundation.

"According to National Healthcare Survey 2013, less than 1/3rd of households in India drink purified water which is disturbing given the progress India has made otherwise since Independence” said Sachin Tendulkar while launching “ShuddhPaani, Swastha Bharat” a Livpure Foundation initiative.

Replying to his association with Livpure Foundation, Sachin Tendulkar said, “Since worldwide infectious diseases such as waterborne diseases are the number one killer of children under 5 years of age, I feel proud to be associated with this initiative to safeguard children’s health to the best of my abilities for the wellbeing of every child in order to reduce/ eradicate child mortality in India.”

Livpure Foundation, a CSR initiative of SAR Group together with Sachin Tendulkar has launched ‘ShuddhPaaniSwasthaBharat’.

On the occasion,  Rakesh Malhotra, Founder SAR Group said, “Access to safe drinking water on sustainable basis constitutes a fundamental and inalienable human right for everyone in India. Livpure Foundation has been established to bring into focus this critical problem facing a large population globally &especially India since as per WHO more people die from unsafe water than from all forms of violence including war”. The primary objectives behind establishing Livpure Foundation has been to:
• To spread awareness of  safe drinking water for good health extent & criticality of unsafe & impure drinking water problem prevalent in India
• To map water quality by community
• Create a transparent Platform for interested stakeholders in addressing this critical problem

How Livpure Foundation works
The Livpure Foundation works as catalyst in policy advocacy, technological innovations, working closely with stakeholders including government and mobilization of health providers and communities on clean drinking water.It also helps develop partnerships that pool competencies and resources, particularly in its role as advocate, facilitator and coordinator, helping stem the spread of water-borne diseases.

According to WHO, an estimated 5,02,000 Indians are affected by waterborne diseases annually. 3,61,000 children under the age of five die each year from diarrhea. Clean drinking water is the only solution to this epidemic problem.

“There is an immediate need for more such movements/ initiatives/ campaigns because of consequential water contamination in the country.  Inadequate drinking water is an important risk factor, particularly in low-income settings. “ShuddhPaani, Swastha Bharat” will restore the cleanliness of the water bodies will help in maintaining the ecological balance of the environment and we can look forward to a clean and green country.” Tendulkar further added.

The Geographical Presence
The Livpure Foundation endeavors for a Pan India presence with thrust in Urban slums and the selected states which confront acute water crisis or water pollution. The focused states are; Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Chattisgarh, Punjab, Rajasthan and Haryana.

Livpure Foundation established a “Students Ambassador Program” for a National Campaign on Right to safe drinking water.Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar presented certificates to 2 Schools where student volunteers undertook community water quality mapping as authorized Health Ambassadors of Livpure Foundation.Under this program, talented and committed school students in age group of 10 to 14 years would be selected through quiz and other competitions, They will be further trained with practical field exposure on water, environment and climate changes by subject experts under guidance of a nodal teacher. The selected students will work as ambassadors of schools to communities. Additionally, they will be trained to pick up samples of water for lab testing in general and more specific on bacteriological contamination. In phase 1, as far as 250 schools representing all segments viz. government, aided and private schools from NCR Delhi region will be identified. In phase2 the project is likely to cover next three metros(Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai) as well as selected rural areas which are prone to water contamination and its negative effects.
