Salman’s Gama Pehalwan to replace Akshay’s Laughter Challenge

In what could be a comedy to action transition, Salman Khan-produced biopic on Gama Pehalwan is slated to replace Akshay Kumar’s show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ currently on air on Star Plus. However, viewers will have to wait till December 2017 for the show on Gama Pehalwan to hit the small screens. According to industry sources, the drama series will be a bi-weekly.

‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ airs at 8 pm on Saturdays and Sundays and went on air on September 30, 2017. The comedy show has Akshay Kumar as a super judge. Comedians Mallika Dua and Zakir Khan are mentors for the show’s contestants. Dialogue writer Hussain Dalal will also co-judge and mentor the contestants.

It was reported earlier this year in the media that apart from his association with ‘Bigg Boss’, Salman Khan is further intensifying his presence on television with the biopic on Gama Pehalwan, which he is producing. The show is based on the life of legendary wrestler Ghulam Mohammed, who was popularly known as Gama Pehalwan. Considered one of the greatest wrestlers, Gama remained undefeated in his 52-year wrestling career. He moved to Pakistan after Independence in 1947.

Salman’s younger brother Sohail Khan will be essaying the role of Gama Pehalwan in the series. The show’s starcast also includes Aarav Choudhary and Priya Bathija (who will be seen as Gama’s parents), along with Mohammad Nazim, Mahaakshay Chakraborty, and Harun Kazi, among others.
