'Sidhu admits his guilt in an interview with India TV'

An interview of Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu given to India TV in 2010 is causing a sensation now.

The complainants in the case of the 1988 road rage case involving Navjot Singh Sidhu have filed a new plea before the Supreme Court saying that the cricketer-turned-politician has admitted his guilt in the interview given to India TV in 12 years ago.

The complainant, the family of the road rage victim’s family, contended that during the interview given to India TV (named 'Aap Ki Adalat') hosted by journalist Rajat Sharma, which was telecast on Sunday night at 10 pm, Sidhu had admitted “not only to the involvement of both the accused in the brawl on the date of the incident but also admitted and accepted hitting the victim Sh Gurnam Singh with fist blows resulting in his death.”

The complainant has submitted a YouTube link of the interview and a CD, seeking Supreme Court's permission to take as evidence, contending that it a piece of evidence that is “vital and necessary for complete elucidation of the truth."

He described the interview as an "extra-judicial confession.”

The complainant claimed that it was necessary and in the best interest of justice that this evidence be considered in deciding the criminal appeal.
Senior Siddharth Luthra, Ranjit Kumar, and Sudhir Walia appeared for the complainant.

Sidhu’s counsel RS Cheema opposed the plea, saying that such a plea can’t be allowed after the trial was over. The counsel contended that such a plea should have been filed before the trial court or the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
