Sony MAX2 to air ‘Seeta Aur Geeta’ on television

The seventies defined the golden era for the Indian movie industry with films being made across diverse sets of genres paving the way for new superstars. Many ensemble films were praised during that span, one of which remains in the mind of viewers to date. Seeta Aur Geeta still resonates with the fans for many reasons, right from its phenomenal cast to the spectacular story put forth. From the upbeat "Oh Saathi Chal" to the everlasting "Zindagi Hai Khel" to the ballad "Haan Ji Haan," all of the songs in the film are beautiful and soothing.

The story brings a tragic tale of two identical twins who are separated at birth and showcases how drastically their lives differ after 17 years. The adversities of life have sculpted two polar opposite personalities. Seeta is trapped with her parental uncle and aunt, who intend on making her life miserable. Geeta on the other hand was stolen by a gypse couple and she has found happiness in her present scenario. The beauty of the film lies in how the story brings a breath of fresh air in an era where exemplified masala Bollywood was at its peak. Another highlight of the story is the amount of depth it has throughout. The authenticity of the characters and the ability of the actors to portray various emotions so well connect with the audience.

Hindi film in the 1970s was characterised by the partnership of Salim and Javed. They were creating history by writing many blockbusters that fused high drama with social concerns. Seeta Aur Geeta is one of their most renowned movies of all time. It’s unprecedentedly well-directed by the infamous director Ramesh Sippy. The cinematography and editing are splendid. The camera work and the stunts were unquestionably innovative. The writing is surprisingly progressive and technically highly innovative for its period. All of these elements bring together a harmonious story packed with theatrical punches, action and a whirlwind of emotions. The movie is a well-balanced mix of fast-paced story, captivating sequences, and entertaining characters. You will never have a dull moment!!
