Sooraj of Diya Baati Aur Hum wins 'Top Cook' competition in Singapore

It’s a moment of pride on Star Plus’s hallmark show Diya Baati Aur Hum, a show that celebrates progressive womanhood as well showcases a healthy, supportive marriage between the leads, Sandhya and Sooraj. This healthy bond between Sandhya and Sooraj has resulted in something fabulous, this week.

After Sandhya coaxed, cajoled and persuaded Sooraj to enter the ‘Top Cook’ competition in Singapore – so that he could show his culinary talent to the world – Sooraj finally enrolled for it. Initially, Sooraj was hesitant in participating as he was afraid his family and friends would mock him as being “effeminate”. But he became confident of himself and his talent, and decided to let nothing deter him.

His single-minded determination has made him win the ‘Top Cook’ competition in Singapore, and his return to the homeland will be marked with lots of appreciation and accolades as he has made his country proud. On asking him how he feels about winning this competition, Sooraj says, “This wouldn’t have happened without my wife Sandhya’s effort and encouragement. I dedicate my triumph solely to her.”

In order to honour his victory, there will be a ‘Vijay Yatra’ in Delhi starting from India Gate to Lajpat Nagar. There will be lots of cheering, dancing and merry-making during this ‘Vijay Yatra’ (or victory procession).

But that’s not all Sooraj and his fans get for this much-deserved win. There is a fabulous surprise in store for the fans awaiting him at Lajpat Nagar.

Sooraj will make piping-hot, fresh jalebis for his fans at Lajpat Nagar! This will be a once-in-a-lifetime moment for his fans, as they will get to taste Sooraj’s cooking – something they had only seen on TV, and something they never thought they would get a chance to do in real-life.

“This ‘Vijay Yatra’ has been organised for Star Plus to share Sooraj’s joy and triumph with his fans – his real supporters. It is also to encourage men and women to do different things, different hobbies and professions, without finding anything derogatory, or without being sexist. Diya, Baati Aur Hum has always maintained its progressive stance, and the ‘Vijay Yatra’ revelry will be a symbol of that,” says Nachiket Pantvaidya, GM, Star Plus.
