Spirit W | I'm most proud of Rickshaw; It's been a labor of love: Rickshaw Design & Communication's Shormistha Mukherjee

After the successful completion of two years of Adgully, the most appreciated section was "Spirit W' where we take you through the voyage of aspiring and passionate ladies in advertising space. Here we go again, with Shormistha Mukherjee, Creative Partner, Rickshaw Design & Communication, who also entered this space by accident!!

Mukherjee is a part of Rickshaw since October 2009 and describes her outfit as Small and furious communication and design agency. where the team believe that they are here to use their creative and strategic skills to solve a problem, to create conversations, to connect with consumers and of course to build a brand.

Before boarding the Rickshaw, Mukherjee has traveled in big buses of advertising like Saatchi & Saatchi and Leo Burnett.

Mukherjee says, "College was just getting over and a friend of mine was going to JWT to give a copy test. I went along because i had three hours to kill before catching a train back home to Hyderabad. And that was it, I never caught the train. I just stayed back in Calcutta. And yes, advertising happened."

Pointing out some of her works that she is proud of, she said, "I think I'm most proud of Rickshaw. It's been a labor of love. We started Rickshaw with three partners and a dog. No clients, no office, just this crazy notion that passion and our belief on how to partner clients, how to build brands with honesty and integrity, how to produce creative work that was a reflection of everything we believed in, would take us places." This can be seen happening. Today they have fantastic partners, with whom they share a wonderful relationship. "We do great work for them, be it Phoenix Mills and Palladium, Faces Cosmetics, JP Morgan Asset Management, Blue Foods, Kangaroo Kids or any other of our partners," she added.

Holding pride and love for the young, smart and committed team that they have built and the quality work they do; she says, "So yes, I'm proud, very proud of Rickshaw."

She has always admired women like Elsie Nanji, but also had huge respect for Alok Nanda as according to her somewhere, both of them are like these inspiring figures for us. That's the kind of work, and direction she would like everyone to take.

Responding to the most inquisitive question of whether women being having an edge over men in the media space; she said, "Not really. I think it just depends on the kind of person you are. The sex hardly matters. If you love your job and are good at it, what difference does the size of your adam's apple make?"

When asked whether the media industry lacks something organizationally, she told us that according to her, most organizations don't always walk the talk when it comes to what they do for their people. This is a business that's about people, and the talent that you gather, generate and allow to grow. But most often, there's no plan for growth. People just do the same thing over and over again, only their designations and pay changes. Eventually they get frustrated, and that starts to show in the output generated by that organization.

On a lighter note, when asked about the desired changes in the way she is perceived, "I could start getting them to perceive me as Goddess in waiting. Or Chief World Take Over Officer? Or Alien abducted by humans. That would be interesting! she quipped.ยช

Well, with awesome thoughts and insights, sharing some of her team friendly policies and few big ticket accounts, Shormistha Mukherjee and her creative outfit is gearing up very smoothly. | By Aanchal Kohli [aanchal(at)adgully.com]
