Spirit W | I want to be the King Maker: Rickshaw's Mahua Hazarika

Today Adgully takes you through the voyage of a Mahua Hazarika, Partner Richshaw, who just like many people entered the advertising space by accident. She says, "Advertising happened by accident. It wasn't a conscious choice. I got seduced by the thought that in advertising one could actually manipulate the behavior of people." Imagine having the magic to touch someone's heart, enough for them to put their hands into their pockets and actually buy what you want them to buy! What a high!

Pointing out some of her works that she is proud off, she said, "I am so proud of Rickshaw. We are fearless and are benchmark agnostic. We don't compare ourselves with other agencies. We compare ourselves with us and strive to best ourselves with each piece of communication and engagement that we do."

Further explaining this fact, she said, "The amazing bit is that after 2 years in business each brief still excites us and each day is a wonder. We believe that it's important to contribute actively to the growth of our clients business." She says, "When they grow we grow too. I am proud of the fact that we are conscious of the fact that people are our most important assets. Without them we would be nowhere. We want people to grow and learn at Rickshaw."

And hence they plan for their growth. It's only when people are excited, happy and can actually see themselves going up the value chain in terms of real learning that they can contribute. Not just to the client but also the organization.

Mahua named Shalini, her maid who has a hard life, who taught her to smile at the face of adversity, Uttam, her husband, who taught her to be selfless and giving, Suhas, her Partner Rickshaw, who has taught her what being a Buddha in everyday life means and Shormistha, Partner Rickshaw, who taught

And by this she doesn't just meant fatter pay cheques.

She says, "I don't want to be seen as the King or Queen of advertising/marketing. I want to be the King Maker! So I am a fairly low key person, who goes about life with determination, energy and cheerfulness."

She loves life and every little thing that it offers! She says, "I love to sit on my balcony on a Bombay fornicator (believe it or not it's a chair!) and

advertising, the more I wanted to understand how the rest of the marketing piece was played out; that prompted a move across the table to Teacher's as a brand manager. God how much I learnt!" She relocated to "Amchi Mumbai', joined Conde Nast in Strategy and Marketing. "It was quite a revelation to work in an almost women-only office", she quipped.

After a short but sweet stint in Conde Nast, she moved as the Category Head for Scotches to Diageo and subsequently went on to start Rickshaw with

Well with such an amazingly illustrious career graph and huge amount of experience in the advertising space, we at Adgully wish her luck and success. | By Aanchal Kohli [aanchal(at)adgully.com]
