Spirit W | It's talent and fervor that drives great work: Saatchi & Saatchi's Kavita Kailas

A gradual journey through the media and creative industry and we have shared some immensely inspiring tales with you. As Thursday comes knocking we ready ourselves to face another leading lady and her gleaming aura and track her inspiration, her work philosophy and everything else about her and only her.

Today in Spirit W we get you Kavita Kailas, VP- Planning, Saatchi & Saatchi (Mumbai). A young lady who derives inspiration from two women writers- Doris Lessing and Elif Shafak, she has come a long way.

Talking about how she chanced upon advertising, Kailas says, "My encounter with advertising happened when I was in college. I would study brands and often wonder "What was the thinking behind the work they created?" This got me researching and dabbling with ideas. What started off as something to do during boring lectures soon became a path to go after."

She is really proud of her work on Axe, Whisper, Marico Hair & Care and Rasna. However she adds that the in the industry there is a high burnout and fatigue rate in the industry leading to high attrition and that the industry needs to find a way to retain great talent.

So do you feel women have an edge over men in the creative space?

Kailas smiles and adds, "It is talent and fervor that drives solid thinking and great work and that is not gender driven."

A woman beaming with self-belief that she is, while signing off Kailas says, "I believe that your work should speak for itself. The focus is on getting some good work out and have fun while doing it. That's what connects me to the people I work with." | By Prabha Hegde [prabha(at)adgully.com]
