Spirit W | Taranviir Kaur's virtual office sol.

Woman is no longer the gender to be underestimated and is a person to be reckoned with.  She has paved her way to the top and is on par with her male counterpart careerwise. One such person who fits the bill is Taranviir Kaur, a Marketing professional with 14 years experience, primarily in the media industry who has conceptualized winning business strategies and defined and created new market segments and products by tracking market opportunities. In her early days of her professional life, Kaur has also served as a Short Service Commissioned Officer in the Indian Navy.

Coming aboard at K Raheja Corp, Kaur is all set to build the Imperial Servcorp business in collaboration with Servcorp Australia, to provide the world’s finest and most premium serviced office solutions for the discerning audience in India.

K Raheja Corp of India brings its understanding of the Indian business space as well as its experience in the Indian real estate market and the hospitality industry. Now Imperial Servcorp, a joint-venture between India’s K. Raheja Corp and Australian MNC Serv Corp, brings its quality processes and world class technology expertise to the mix. The tie up is committed to maintaining Servcorp’s 5 star standards in each aspect in India. Headquartered in Mumbai and operating since 2007, the joint venture has two centres – one at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai and the other at Mind Space in Hyderabad – covering 50,000 sq feet.

Adgully spoke to Taranviir Kaur, Country Head – India, Imperial Servcorp, who has recently taken over the position at the company, to know more about her views on the changing scenario of the industry she is in, her interesting career span, the challenges she faced which ultimately led to her success story.

Kaur’s professional journey has been impressive as well as unconventional. Speaking about the same she said, “In an interesting journey of 15 years with some great experiences and learning, I have tried to explore fields which have not been very conventional for women. I have been part of the Defense Forces - The Indian Navy, before stepping into the corporate world.”

She is a firm believer of the saying, ‘if it’s there in your mind you definitely will have it in you.’ So move confidently in the direction of your dreams, set goals, create opportunities and move ahead is her mantra!

In her career span, Taranviir worked as a Senior Consultant in JIL Information Technology Ltd. where she was heading the Western Region and was responsible for marketing of software packages in the education space. Prior to joining Imperial Servcorp, she was with The TIMES Group and was responsible for creating impactful and innovative ‘Thought Leadership’ properties and IPs in the B2B and the B2C space.

In terms of milestones in her career, Kaur shared, “Creating Incremental revenue streams, pioneering new selling concepts and cross promotional strategies which led to immense visibility and changed the face of the TOI brand in Vizag ultimately leading to the launch of the Times of India Vizag Edition.”

When asked about specific challenges she faced as a woman in order to get a breakthrough into the corporate world and is it now easier for women professionals to reach the top, she very proudly said, “Why are we still talking about gender biases, when today women have proved themselves in every field.  If one wants to be there it’s up to us to overcome challenges and identify/ create opportunities to reach to the top.”

Kaur sharing her opinions on how the industry has evolved in terms of its outlook towards women who are now in step with the man's world, said she would particularly want to comment on the corporate sector rather than on the industry as a whole. With more women holding positions of responsibility and power more doors are opening and there is, though not equal but a substantial representation of the women workforce. “Accordingly corporates are changing their policies to make it more women friendly though I guess Indian corporates still have a lot to learn from their foreign counterparts in terms of providing flexible working hours, work from home and or second career innings,” she opined.

Servcorp’s offering focuses on four distinct features: fantastic locations with five star facilities and infrastructure; superbly trained support staff; consistency of delivery from every single location across the globe and an unmatched proprietary IT and Telecommunications backbone that ensures your business is never out of touch with its clients.

Elaborating on key elements about Servcorp, she said, “The business model of Servcorp across the globe is to offer the world’s finest serviced and virtual office solutions to businesses that understand the value of a premium CBD address and the support of international class infrastructure and personnel at great value for money prices. Wherever Servcorp operates, we ensure we deliver fabulous value for money. This attention to devising and delivering the best solutions to meet client needs and exceed their expectations has been at the core of Servcorp’s success.”
Sharing her views on how business and corporate communication industry can take advantage of the changing media she says that today, apart from the normal PR and advertising route, businesses are exploring alternate routes to position themselves and effectively communicate their messages to their target audience. Businesses are exploring platforms which can offer them higher ROIs and reach out to their TG more effectively and in a personalized way. “With media houses offering solutions in the branded content space, and working closely with clients to co-create solutions, businesses are keen to explore this space in the print, electronic and the digital mediums,” Kaur said.

Though her professional life keeps her busy throughout the day Taranviir Kaur manages to squeeze out some time to pursue her hobbies and interests which include trying out new culinary delights for her family and friends. Married to a Naval Officer she is also a proud mother to her eight year old daughter, Mehar.
