Spotify continues its steady drumbeat of podcast releases in India

Continuing its focus on growing the local audio catalogue, Spotify has announced a slate of new podcasts in India, including six new titles to be available exclusively on the audio streaming platform. Hosted by popular, influential voices and spanning multiple genres, the podcasts will appeal to listeners across demographics. These include thriller-fiction podcast Droh voiced by actors Karan Tacker and Zayn Marie Khan, and content creator-led podcasts such as Pajama Party with Captain Nick, Decode Dil with Ekta, The Breakup Story with Ashish Bagrecha, ShutUp Sejal, and Khooni Monday.

In India, podcasts continue to thrive as creators experiment with this audio medium to connect deeper with their existing fans and find newer ones.

Dhruvank Vaidya, Head of Podcasts, Spotify India, said, “There is a strong connection between content creators and fans, and our goal is to work with influential voices across popular languages in the country. It is an opportunity for them to find a newer, more intimate way to talk to their fans and engage in meaningful conversations with them. In parallel, given the potential of discoverability of podcasts on Spotify, they’ll also reach newer listeners. For us, it’s an effort to provide listeners with the content they love and relate to. The new releases add to our 150+ podcasts from India that are exclusively available on Spotify”.

The new podcasts, available to stream for free on Spotify, include:
• Droh. Featuring actors Karan Tacker and Zayn Marie Khan, this audio show will launch on July 27 with 12 binge-worthy episodes. It is based on a special branch of the Mumbai Police that deals with some of the most high-profile cases without any jurisdiction. Droh is Karan Tacker and Zayn Marie Khan’s first foray into the audio space.
• Pajama Party with Captain Nick. On this weekly Hindi show, popular Youtuber Captain Nick aka Niharicka Singh opens up about all her crushes, mistakes, achievements, escapades, and more in her usual comedic style. With a rotating roster of close creator friends who share advice and fans who share confessions, Pajama Party with Captain Nick is going to be your new best friend.
• Decode Dil with Ekta. A popular RJ and a love guru to her followers, Ekta Sandhir effortlessly gives tidbits of life advice and love lessons to her followers. This weekly podcast is engaging, interactive and revolves around a new theme in each episode, with Ekta answering questions sent by listeners around that theme.
• The Breakup Story with Ashish Bagrecha. A biweekly podcast hosted by this well-known creator and poet, Breakup Story is where Ashish shares his experiences and opinions on relationships, breakups and everything in-between.
• Shutup Sejal. Sejal Kumar is a content creator from New Delhi, India. Her newest venture is her podcast ‘Shutup Sejal’ is all about vulnerable topics such as mental health and conversations with the top content creators of India.
• The Horror Show by Khooni Monday. Each Monday becomes Khooni and each Friday becomes Freaky, as popular YouTuber Khooni Monday aka Divay Agarwal brings you the best of scary stories about popular horror legends, creepiest chudails, ghosts and the most haunted places across the world.

The variety of podcast creators, genres, and languages on Spotify is bringing more voices and listeners to the platform. In fact, on Spotify’s podcast creation tool, Anchor, content is now being created in over 13 Indian languages. Podcasters such as Leeza Mangaldas, Rishipedia, Ekta Sandhir, Ranveer Allahbadia, Mythpat, Ma Ka Pa, Captain Nick, and RJ Balaji among others are topping the Spotify charts right now, and the company will continue to invest in a vast array of content focusing on creative storytelling.
